Lifehouse Spa Day
We booked a Lifehouse spa day with afternoon tea and 2 x treatments each on a special offer for around £160.
Treatment shops line the entrance, displaying an impressive array of bottles, lotions, face masks and more.
The friendly reception staff are on hand to present you with a fresh white towel, robe, flip flops (which you can keep), and explain how the locker system works. They also explain the times of your treatments and where to go.
You’re then left to your own devices to wonder off and enjoy your day at Lifehouse Spa.
Arriving at 10:15am, treatments were at 12:15pm so we had a couple hours to enjoy the pool and spa facilities.
The impressive 18m heated pool was the perfect temperature to jump straight in for a lengthy dip.
Plenty of chairs were available to lie on around the main pool and Jacuzzi (HydroPool). The Jacuzzi room was very humid so we settled into the main pool area with towels, magazines and nibbles from home.
Alongside the main pool and Jacuzzi, there was a plunge pool, salt room, relaxation room, steam room, sauna and aromatic showers (experience showers) giving you the choice of cold or hot water.
It wasn’t a gym day today but there is a well equipped gym if you fancy it. For us, it was all about phones off and relaxation.
The afternoon started with two treatments in a 40 minute time slot (so both lasting 20 minutes). First up was a back massage, followed by a facial.
Both spa treatments were incredibly relaxing. One critique was a lack of calming music in the room so you could hear the masseur’s breathing. However they were very attentive, took their time, asked what pressure I wanted the massage and gave plenty of time to get in position.
The masseur also didn’t engage in conversation which was a positive. I wanted to shut my eyes and relax, not chat about my upcoming holidays.
After 40-45 minutes, the treatments were complete. I’d highly recommend having both if you can.
The oils and lotions with Rice Bran Oil (also called Rice Kernel Oil) had fantastic scents and come with many skin benefits (see below).
Both treatments were well worth the money spent.
Afterwards we retreated back to the main pool then sat outside with a beer before having a quick walk round the grounds before afternoon tea, scheduled for 2pm.
Best skincare products for young, clear, smooth, spot free skin
My masseur used the following products for the facial – Gel Cleanser (Illuminate), Toner (Illuminate), Moisturiser (Illuminate) and Invigorating Body Oil.
They’re suitable for men and women.
The masseur will ask what your cleansing routine is like – don’t be embarrassed to say soap and water (if it is) – they won’t judge!
If you get to experience a product with rice bran oil – prepare to be wowed by the gorgeous scent and invigorating skin benefits that will leave your skin glowing.
Skincare benefits of Rice Bran Oil
One of the main ingredients in Illuminate Gel Cleanser is OryzaSativa (Rice) Bran Oil.
Illuminate Facial Toner has Rice Powder in the ingredients and Illuminate Moisturiser has Bran Oil. The common ingredient in all these products is clearly the skincare powerhouse – Rice Bran Oil.
Oryzanol, a powerful antioxidant, is taken out of rice bran oil and is used in skincare products to help skin look young and stay smooth & supple, as well as clear acne spots and age spots.
Rice Bran Oil hydrates deep into the skin so is a popular ingredient in anti ageing creams, hand creams, shampoo, creams which reduce eye bags / puffiness and face cleansers.
Rice Bran Oil is similar to Peanut Oil because it has a lot of fatty acids which makes it a fantastic moisturiser for the body and face.
Thorpe Hall Gardens
We only spent around 20 minutes walking round some of the gardens but if you can, spend a good hour at least enjoying all the plants, gardens and wildlife. The reception staff also provide you were a leaflet detailing some walks around the grounds that you can do. We just didn’t have time in our day to do these.
There’s an interesting display near the restaurant giving you a history of Thorpe Hall Gardens. Well worth a read.
For afternoon tea there was plenty of coffee (free refill), cake and sandwiches. Book a spa day with afternoon tea to enjoy eating tasty food in your glistening white robe.
Three sandwich fillings were served including my favourite, salmon and cream cheese. Honey roasted ham and cucumber were also available. The other tiers had scones, french fancies and macaroons.
At 6pm the spa day came to an end. I felt relaxed and like a changed man!
With our visit being a spa day, we didn’t get to see the hotel or stay for the night so I can’t comment on the hotel facilities. However it does get a Very Good rating and is listed as a four star hotel on Booking.com.
